Hussain Sagar
Description
Hussain Sagar is a necklace shaped lake present in Hyderabad which was built by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah. It was named after Hussain Shah Wali. Spreading across an area of 5.7 square kilometers this whole spot is fed by River Musi. In the middle of the lake a large monolithic statue of the Gautama Buddha stands on Gibraltar Rock which was erected in 1992. The place also separates Hyderabad from its sister city Secunderabad. The lake is 57 feet at its maximum point.
History
Hussain Sagar was declared as the 'Heart of the World' by UNWTO on 27 September 2012. It was declared on the occasion of World Tourism Day as it was the World's Largest Heart Shaped Mark on the face of the earth among the heart-shaped marks formed by the other heart-shaped lakes in different countries and islands that exist in the world. The Logo for the 'Heart of the World' was inaugurated by honorable H.E. Mr. Taleb Rifai who was Secretary-General of United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in Madrid-Spain, in the year 2013.

Attraction
- It is the largest heart-shaped park in the world. Around it revolves a road on which there are too many attraction points which one can not miss.
Patton Tank - The Pakistani tank is a war trophy which was given to the 54th Infantry Division who had successfully disabled it during the strategic Battle of Basantar in Pakistan which was fought during 15–17 December 1971.
- Buddha Statue –It is an 18-meter high monolithic statue of Lord Buddha which towers over the lake from atop the Rock of Gibraltar. The idea came in 1985 ss a part of the Buddha Poornima project. The statue was cut out from a white granite rock which weighed 450 tons. It was carved by highly skilled 200 sculptors for about two years. The statue was then transported to Hyderabad in November 1988.
- Lumbini Park - It is an urban park of 7.5 acres which lies adjacent to Hussain Sagar. It was constructed at a whopping cost of INR 2.35 crores on about 5 acres of land as a part of the Buddha Poornima project in 1985. It has various beautiful attractions such as laser auditorium, boating facilities, and musical fountains.
- Sanjeev Park: Sanjeevaiah Park is a public green space and park which lies to the north of the lake. Built on a whopping 92 acres, the park is named after DamodaramSanjivayya who was the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority currently manages the park. The park won the Best open landscape award during the 2010 Indian national trust in the category of art and cultural heritage award presentations.
Apart from this one can find many statues of renowned personalities in the vicinity of the lake.

Things to enjoy
- Hussain Sagar lake is a beautiful and known spot for sailing. Hyderabad Sailing Week has been organized here since 1984. At that time the first laser boats were introduced by the Laser Class Association of India. The event has grown 11 times from 10 laser entries in 1984 to 110 laser entries in 2009 which is a marvelous number. In August 2009 the lake witnessed the monsoon regatta in which sailors from all over India participated
